Every Mother Deserves A Doula
The word doula is derived from the Greek language meaning woman caregiver. A doula is a professional who provides physical comfort, emotional support, informational assistance, and non-medical care to mothers and their families before, during and after childbirth.
Women have specific needs during childbirth and the weeks that will follow. Along with medical care and the love and companionship provided by their partners, women need continuous reassurance, comfort, encouragement and respect. They need customized individual care based on their circumstances and preferences.

As a mother’s doula, we will not replace her support person. Instead, we will educate and teach her designated support person who perhaps would be a spouse, boyfriend, mother, sister, or best friend how to understand how they can love and encourage the birth mother while in labor. A little bit about me. I am married to a wonderful man that I have shared the last 28 years of my life with. We have two amazing children, our oldest is twenty-six married with two children of his own, ages seven and three, and our daughter is nineteen. My children are one of the most amazing pieces of my life and one of my greatest accomplishments.
Since I was a young mother, young mothers particularly teen mothers have always held a special place in my heart, especially my niece Kayla who was a young teen mother. I understood the emotional and physical demands that come along with pregnancy, birth, and postnatal needs. Being a comforter by nature, I have been in the room with a number of family members, friends, and teen mothers who needed a support person during labor, but it took my niece being a teen mother and a very special midwife who just so happen to be the midwife for the last four births I was in the room with to speak life into a gift that I wasn’t fully and completely operating in.
After being in the room with my sister and encountering that same beautiful spirited midwife yet again who spoke words of advice and wisdom once again, I knew it was time for me to become a Doula, as well as a Childbirth Educator. Every woman deserves to have her best birth experience. My goal is a comfortable relaxed encouraged mother, a supported partner, and a healthy baby or babies. God has a way of placing the right people in the right place at the right time, Ms. Crystal (midwife) was that right person in the right place at the right time for me. She saw the advocate, nurturer, encourager, and supporter that birthing mothers needed. I was doing something that was second nature. What I saw was me simply being me.
When I am not wearing my doula hat, I am either in my tax preparation office, working in my non-profit programs and mentorship program, or planning an event or two. I have been blessed to wear many hats and I enjoy each and every one of them.
